Why is the ice-skating rink staying open following a closure date of July 31?

We have been able to adjust the schedule for the upcoming planned work which enables the rink to remain open from August 1 - December 14, 2026.

With July 31 fast approaching, why has it taken so long to announce the rink remaining open?

​

Extending the rink's operations required the careful coordination and adjustment of several interconnected factors. We received confirmation on the final outstanding item this week, allowing us to announce the revised timeline.

When is the last date the rink will be open?

​

The final date of operation will be Monday, December 14, 2026.

The rink has been closed on a couple of occasions due to technical issues; will these problems continue to persist?

​

While technical issues can arise, MetroNational will continue to take all reasonable steps to maintain the rink and support safe, reliable operations through its scheduled closure date. Any issues will be addressed as promptly as possible to minimize disruption.

Will the ice rink extend past Monday, December 14, 2026?

Should the redevelopment timeline experience any material delays, MetroNational will evaluate the possibility of extending ice rink operations beyond December 14, 2026.

How do I register?

​

Details regarding the registration process for the fall season will be communicated by Sports Facilities Companies (SFC).

For hockey enquiries reach out to Tanner Vallon, Hockey Director at hockey.director@skatememorialcity.com. Registrations will be open on the Ice Skate Memorial City website (www.iceskatememorialcity.com) by the end of day Friday, July 17. Hockey games and practices will not take place at Memorial City Ice Rink after December 14, 2026. SFC is working with regional rinks to coordinate a full in-house game and playoff schedule through February 2027, with more details to come.

What if I don't use my prepaid skating sessions by December 14?

Any unused, prepaid skating sessions as of the December 14 closure date will be fully refunded. Details regarding the refund process will be communicated by Sports Facilities Companies, the manager of the Memorial City Ice Rink.
